For People with Physical Disabilities

Portsmouth Metropolitan Housing Authority provides accessible residences and other services for people with special needs. Some of the things PMHA provides are:

• Wheelchair ramps with wide doors

• Showers with wheelchair access or special seating

• Grab bars in bathrooms

• Elevators in high rise buildings

• Emergency response system

   (in bathroom and bedroom) of high rise units

• TDD (telephonic device for the deaf) at our main office

• Bathroom sinks, kitchen sinks and counters, are open for wheelchair

  access.

• Flashing light "doorbell" for the deaf and hard-of -hearing

• Braille elevator buttons for the blind

• Handrails in the corridors of all senior buildings

• Lowered security peepholes at entrance door

• Control knobs located on the front of stoves for access

• Identified handicap parking spaces and walk ramps

• Handicap sticker on front of door for emergency response

• Interpretation services for deaf and hard-of-hearing upon request
